The Nazi ideology was mostly based on Hitler's study of works written during the changes of the 19th century. Thus most of the Nazi ideology has elements that can be seen in previous ideologies and ideas. A large part of Nazism is the idea of a superior German people (Herrenvolk) was based on ideas of the philosopher Johann Gottfried von Herder. The term volk was used to describe a special people, and was used by German Nationalists claiming that it suggested a superior German race. Another element of the ideology was anti-semetism. Historically, Jews outside Russia were persecuted. The persecution began to die out at the end of the 19th century, but the rise of industrialization gave Jews chances to earn money. The ideas of Fredrich Nietzsche also influenced the ideas of Fuhrerprinzip, due to his ideas of a ubermensch (a person with the will power to lead humans) which closely resemble Fuhrerprinzip.
